Flying the Nanchang CJ-6A "Hana Hou!"


In late January 2013, I had the privilege of flying a friend's highly modified Nanchang CJ-6A. It's a truly rare and unique airplane. It was originally designed as a fighter trainer for the Chinese air force, but this one has a MUCH larger engine and many aerodynamic improvements like the streamlined engine cowling and aerodynamic winglets. Notice the big radial engine and the prominent dihedral angle in the wings. It's very fast and responsive, but that dihedral makes it very stable in level flight.
